// content consumption.

There are many days in which I feel older than my actual age. Today is one of those days.

Yes, I enjoy dissecting content from YouTubers like Philip DeFranco. I follow accounts like Soompi on Twitter to keep up with the K-Pop industry. I have a digital subscription to news sites, including the New York Times. However, most of my information actually comes from a more unique source…podcasts.

Podcasts have become a part of my daily routine. I didn’t have the time to sit and scroll through article feeds, considering how busy I was. However, as someone who’s interested in the field of journalism, I understand the importance of staying up-to-date, and I decided that it was essential that I find some way to incorporate it into my routine.

I started listening to podcasts during my freshman year of college. Now, with the invention of things like the Amazon Echo – thank you, uncle, for gifting me with one this Christmas! – it’s so easy for me to maintain that part of my routine.

When I look at my trends, most of the podcasts I listen to come from NPR. I have favorites, like Up First and NPR Politics, but I also really enjoy NPR News Now. The latter is updated every few hours, and is actually built in as a skill for my Amazon Echo library.

After discovering that niche, I branched out to other styles of podcasts. My favorite non-news source is BookRiot – thank you to my aunt for introducing me to this one! One of my favorite things to do during my “me time” involves listening to one of their podcasts while knitting or journaling.

While podcasts in general aren’t as popular as other mediums, I still think they cater to a very prominent market…the multitaskers. The people who understand their time constraints and try to maximize them to the best of their ability. That’s why the formatting of podcasts is so useful; the 5-minute ones are best for people needing a quick taste, while the hour-long ones are good when trying to accomplish additional background work.

The diversity of the content that the medium provides is easily one of my favorite aspects of podcasts. As long as I’m living this busy lifestyle – which will likely be for the rest of my life! – this will be essential to keeping me on track moving forward.
