Hello! My name is Emma Cathy Smith. It’s a pleasure to meet you (again)!
A considerable amount has passed since I first wrote “introductions.” At that time, I was a seventeen-year-old girl who was finishing her freshman year. At that time, I was willing to let the wind blow me in whatever direction she intended.
Now, I don’t regret that mindset; I am fortunate to be able to say that I feel that I’ve utilized all the opportunities presented to me. Younger me wouldn’t have even dreamed of all of the things I’ve done, and I’m humbled just thinking about it.
With that being said…it’d be easy to argue that I may have bitten off much more than I needed to. I’ve always strived to be an overachiever, but I’ve faced a lot more burnout than I’d like to admit so far. In this particular semester, I’m essentially taking 24 credits. 24. There are still so many lessons I have yet to learn…and this is definitely one of them.
My journey of self-development – which I mentioned in that previous article – hasn’t slowed down. In fact, I feel that it’s only just now picking up speed. The main lesson I’ve learned is the importance of self care. My mental health is just as important as my physical health, and I’ve been slowly nurturing it into a comfortable spot. Mainly, I’ve let myself fall back in love with my passions, unapologetically. Those 30 minutes or so every day have really helped me stay on track, and I look forward to finding more ways to incorporate these little moments into my everyday life.
Moving forward in this journey will provide a whole new set of learning opportunities. Now that I’ve started to become a person that I can love and respect, it is now time for me to begin shaping my future on top of this foundation. There are so many things now in my hands…and it’s up to me to make the best use of them.
Anyway, this blog is about to be very active; I’m taking a few writing-intensive classes this semester that require me to blog, and I’m looking forward to using it as an opportunity to re-energize this account. I hope you enjoy taking this journey with me!
